This god's cultists make human sacrifices to have the Father appear and conquer all men. The sacrifices are run through gauntlets of clubs with embedded bat teeth coated in poison. The cult supposedly died out 100 years ago.
Dr. Kafour tells us a little about a meeting he had with Jackson Elias before Jackson left Cairo completely. When asked about the cats he just mentions Bast and Janwillem Van Heuvelen - a hieroglyph translator who has had bad luck with cats - before brushing us off.

In a conversation with Jack Brady on April 22, 1925, he tells the investigators that Roger Carlyle told him they could "meet the god as soon as he destroyed the eyes and opened the path." Brady thought it was just crazy talk at the time, but the first night they were in Dahshur, Egypt, Roger sneaked out of his tent and climbed the pyramid. Unlike Brady, Roger displayed no issues scaling the smooth walls of the top portion of the pyramid. Roger got to the top, put on some robes, and started "making these sounds," followed by a huge explosion, with echoes and screams and bright red light. When Brady reached the top, Roger told him, "The eyes is gone, Jack. Now we can be gods." Brady found a piece of rock in the sand the following day with a symbol on it that he kept. He didn't know then, but realizes now that it was magical, and powerful magic at that, a protection against evil. Brady believes that Roger went up there to break it on purpose.

Arrive at the Cairo Bulletin and ask to speak with Nigel Wassif, the owner, editor, and reporter for the paper.

He remembers Jackson Elias, but has no real information, though he seems to be holding something back and spends the entire time talking around things using facts about the newspaper and happenings.

Cillian and Victor speak with Nigel about Jackson and the Cult of the Bloody Tongue. Unfortunately they get no extra information. Cillian pushes things in his most charming priestly manner but nothing was particularly forthcoming.

Gunter and Charles examine the back catalog, and find plenty of articles that support what they already know about what's going on in Cairo. Also they find a picture of part of the Carlyle Expedition - Roger Carlyle, Hypatia Masters, and Jack Brady - arriving in Egypt - Nigel Wassif is noted as the reporter of record. There is also a note that Ms. Masters took ill and ended the festivities after the arrival.

When Gunter and Charles return they ask about the photo, and Nigel says that Dr. Alli Kafour at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo was one of the Expedition's local contacts. Nigel says he only interacted with the Expedition enough to get the photo and found them to be dreadfully horrible people who were extremely standoffish. Gunter then asks about cats and Nigel does mention that he has notified been an explosion of cats lately, and they are often associated with an ancient Egyptian deity known as Bast. He says we could talk Dr. Alli Kafour about the cats as well, as he is likely to know more.

Nigel says the Clive Expedition is clearly the biggest game in town right now. They are involved in digs on the outskirts of Cairo and at the Bent Pyramid and he contemptuously mentions that the Clive Expedition has hired a medium. He thinks her name is Agatha something, but he is definitely sure that her name is NOT Anastasia.

Next we all head to the Egyptian Museum of Cairo to speak with Dr. Alli Kafour. He tells us that the Carlyle Expedition uncovered a secret pertaining to the Black Pharaoh which lead to their slaughter in Kenya. He then proceeds to give a mini-lecture on the Black Pharaoh. He also tells us that the Clive Expedition found a tomb in the Giza complex with a mummy that they claimed was Queen Nitocris, however, it has since disappeared. Dr. Kafour tells us a little about a meeting he had with Jackson Elias before Jackson left Cairo completely. When asked about the cats he just mentions Bast and Janwillem Van Heuvelen - a hieroglyph translator who has had bad luck with cats - before brushing us off.

End of the 3rd dynasty a man called Nephren-ka came to Egypt. He was a powerful sorcerer. it was said that he could bring madness or death to his enemies with a flick of his finger. According to legend, Nephren-ka was either the Black Pharaoh or was the head priest of the Black Pharaoh and his symbol was the inverted ankh. The Black Pharaoh and/or Nephren-ka ruled Egypt for several dynasties. Said to possess a huge beast similar to the sphinx near the Giza. His voice was called a Black Wind that went through the lands destroying everything in it's path. It is said that there are still inhumane cults that worship the the Black Pharaoh today. The cults are also rumored to be involved with the worship of a beautiful but evil Queen known as Nitocris

Jackson Elias was born in 1888. He is of medium height and build, and dark-complexioned. He has a feisty, friendly air about him and, as an orphan in Stratford, Connecticut, he learned to make his own way early in life. He has no living relatives, and no permanent address. For his friends, months and sometimes years separate one meeting from the next. Still, he is well liked and respected wherever he goes. The world is better for having Jackson Elias in it.

Curtis Blakely, Dr. Victor Lester, Mary Elise St. Dennis, and Jack Falcon originally met Jackson in 1920 during an investigation of a death cult in Queens, NY. The Church of Our Lord, Granter of Secrets. The cult was started by a Catholic priest, Father Walter Corbitt. Together with Elias they gathered evidence to stop the cult and the kidnappings that plagued the surrounding neighborhood.

Jackson turned 35 in 1923, and sent a telegram to gather the group of 4 friends together again to head to Mexico to investigate the Ah Puch Cult. Curtis, Victor, Mary Elise, and Jack arrived in time to rescue Elias and capture Walter Kimble before heading back to the States. Elias left with a great story and his thanks for pulling him out of that steaming jungle that would have been his death.

His writings characterize and analyze death cults. His best-known book is Sons of Death, exposing modern-day Thuggees in India. He speaks several languages fluently and is constantly traveling. He is social, and enjoys an occasional drink. He smokes a pipe. Elias is tough, stable, and punctual, unafraid of brawls or officials. He is mostly self-educated. His well-researched works always seem to reflect first-hand experience. He is secretive and never discusses a project until he has a final draft in hand.

All of his books illustrate how cults manipulate the fears of their followers. A skeptic, Elias has never found proof of supernatural powers, magic, or dark gods. Insanity and feelings of inadequacy characterize death cultists, feelings for which they compensate by slaughtering innocents to make themselves feel powerful or chosen. Cults draw the weak-minded, though cult leaders are usually clever and manipulative. When fear of a cult stops, the cult vanishes.

* Skulls Along the River (1910) — exposes headhunter cult in Amazon basin.
* Masters of the Black Arts (1912) — surveys supposed sorcerous cults throughout history.
* The Way of Terror (1913) — analyzes systematization of fear through cult organization; warmly reviewed by George Sorel.
* The Smoking Heart (1915) — first half discusses historical Mayan death cults. Second half instances present-day Central American death cults.
* Sons of Death (1918) — modern-day Thuggees; Elias infiltrated the cult and wrote a book about it.
* Witch Cults of England (1920)— summarizes covens in nine English counties; interviews practicing English witches; Rebecca West thought some of the material trivial and overworked.
* The Black Power (1921) — expands upon The Way of Terror; includes interviews with several anonymous cult leaders.
* The Hungry Dead (1924) — exposes the modern-day survival of a Peruvian and Bolivian death cult from the time of the conquistadors: the Kharisiri.

All of these books are published by Prospero Press of New York City, and all were edited by owner/editor Jonah Kensington, a good friend of Jackson Elias.

Servants greet and welcome us, offering tea that everyone but Victor declines. We're escorted upstairs. The decor is wealthy Egyptian with lots of antiques. Quinn looks around and spots a marine chronometer among the items in the room along with 2 crossed scepters mounted behind the desk. Victor notices a photograph that includes a woman, Zahra al-Sayed, from Empire Spices - the spice shop in London owned by Tewfik al-Sayed. al-Shakti attempts to dissuade us from our path. We roughly refuse in various ways. He offers us gifts and power if we cease our attempts to thwart his master. Father Quinn dismisses it all as lies from the devil. Victor claims to already have everything that al-Shakti is offering. Charles won't forsake the life of his cousin by treading down this path. Omar al-Shakti tells Charles that Carl Stanford retained Elise's spirit, preventing her from moving on to the promised afterlife. Charles wants to hear none of it though. Attempts to engage Alister Trimble don't get far, and he doesn't seem to remember anything about his days among the living. The group tires of being toyed with and leaves, going back to the car.

We're taken to the Shepherd's Hotel, where we unload our trunk and watch Alister Trimble drive off with Victor's car. There at the bar we meet Gunter von Schreiber who says he knows his way around Cairo. We agree to meet the next day to head to the local newspaper office.
